Dmitry Silvian – cello

Dmitry Silvian (1987, Odessa) began his cello studies at the age of 7 at the Stoliarsky School of Music in Odessa. Two years later, he pursued his studies in Russia with Mark Reizenstock at a music school affiliated with the St. Petersburg Conservatory. At age 12, he started giving concerts with a few St. Petersburg’s orchestras in Estonia, France, and various other places. In 2003, Dmitri Silvian entered the Boulogne Conservatory in France under Michel Strauss, and in the succeeding three years was unanimously awarded a diploma of the highest degree. In 2006, he entered the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and worked with several professors, such as Michel Strauss, Roland Pidoux, Marc Coppey, Bruno Cocset on a baroque cello, as well as Itamar Golan and Claire Desert as chamber music tutors. In 2010, he earned the Diploma Formation Superieur with a special mention.

In January 2011, he was invited by Tugan Sokhiev, the conductor of the Orchestra of Toulouse, to play the Saint-Saens cello concerto No.1 at the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse, France. He was awarded the Grand Prix as a soloist and the 1st Prize in the chamber music category at the International Madeira Forum. In 2013, he won the 1st Prize and the Special Prize for the best performance at the American Protégé Competition, New York, where he was invited to the iPalpiti Music Festival to perform in the Disney Hall in Los Angeles. In the same year he finished his Master’s degree at the Paris National Conservatory and continued to study for an additional Master’s degree in chamber music (trio). 

In chamber music he participated in many festivals in France and Folle Journée festival in Japan. In 2016 Dmitry is taken as “musician in residence” in Opera de Paris and plays as a soloist with orchestras like Orchestre de chambre de Nouvelle Europe ,Orchestra Classica da Madeira et l’Orchestre National de Belgique.

Dmitry Silvian is a former principal solo cello of Suzhou Symphony Orchestra in China and since 2020 he is the cello principal of the Belgian National Orchestra.
